Interviews: DJ Operon Exclusive Interview

DJ Operon has been a pillar of the drum'n'bass community in Brisbane (Australia) for over five years now. Alongside partner in crime DJ Erther, Operon is responsible for reviving a dead scene for this UK breakbeat sound in his home town. Lack of exposure to the genre and a poor selection of events compelled him to start his own parties which has led on to the highly successful 'Rude Bwoyz Monthly' events, which have now been running each and every month for the last five years. Drum'n'bass in Brisbane is now the strongest its ever been, with scores of talented young djs coming through the ranks and lots of exposure to the sound at many diverse dance events and clubs. His efforts have culminated with top support slots for renowned djs such as LTJ Bukem, Teebee, Aphrodite, Dom & Roland, and Pendulum, as well as a feature mix and interview on major national radio station 'Triple J' back in November. A keen producer, Operon's name was pushed farther a field of Brisbane when one of his productions 'Regolith' was picked as one of 9 finalists for the 2004 'Connecting Beats' competition run by Nokia. The track featured on a CD alongside artists such as Motive (dsci4) and received Australia wide distribution. More recently, Operon in collaboration with top Brisbane vocalist 'Manta Ray' (My Ninja Lover) has had his production 'Airports' signed with UK label 'Phuzion Records', the 12" promo getting to No.15 on the Juno charts in it's first week! The label is owned and managed by the legendary DJ Nookie, famed for his seminal releases on LTJ Bukem's Good Looking imprint. Nookie has been pushing the tune on his MOS radio show and at many European dnb events to fantastic response!

Interviews: Ritual Interview by Skelm

If you haven’t heard the name of Ritual… DJ, Producer and label honcho for Conscious Rebel Music, then you have seriously been living under a rock. Ritual has been pushing the sounds of jungle/drum n bass for as long as most of you have been allowed to leave the house without an adult. He once dominated every dnb line up in this city and today he is still going strong with numerous gigs both locally and interstate. Ritual is a solid player in the Sydney drum n bass community and with his label making leaps and bounds we sent Skelm in to find out what he has been up to before he plays tonight at Drum n Breaks and Drumatic.
